Nairobi — The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has secured a 20-year prison sentence against a man convicted of defiling a minor in Garissa.

Senior Resident Magistrate of the Garissa Law Courts found the man guilty of the offence of defilement contrary to section 8(1) as read with section 8(1)(4) of the Sexual Offences Act No. 3 of 2006.

The court heard that, on diverse dates between 6th February 2026 and 11th March 2026, the accused intentionally and unlawfully defiled a 13-year-old girl, a Grade 7 student, in Ziwani area, Iftin Location in Garissa Sub-County and later in Witu Area, Witu Location in Lamu Sub-County.

Prosecution led by Dan Kariuki told court the accused lured the girl after her aunt had sent her to a shop. He first kept her in the Millimani area and later moved her to Witu in Lamu, locations associated with his sister and uncle, where the defilement occurred.

With the assistance of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the accused was arrested on 13th March 2026.

In her sentencing remarks, the Senior Resident Magistrate acknowledged that the accused was a first-time offender with no previous criminal record and imposed a 20-year term
