Uganda: Police Recover 10 Suspected Stolen Cows, Arrest Two Suspects in Nakasongola

Police in Nakasongola District have recovered ten suspected stolen cows and arrested two suspects following an intelligence-led operation targeting cattle theft in the area.

According to police, officers received information that a group of individuals was planning to sell suspected stolen cattle. Acting on the intelligence, police launched an operation that led to the recovery of the animals at about 2:00 a.m. on August 6 in Nakalikirya Village, Lwampanga Town Council.

The recovered cows were identified as animals allegedly stolen from a resident of Kiyanja LC1.

The suspects, identified as Yowasi Kulabako and Eliazar Sserwanja, are currently in police custody as investigations continue.

Savannah Regional Police spokesperson ASP Sam Twiineamazima said the successful operation was made possible through timely information provided by members of the public.

"Upon receiving credible intelligence that suspected stolen cattle were being prepared for sale, our officers conducted an operation that resulted in the recovery of ten cows and the arrest of two suspects. The recovered animals have been exhibited and investigations are ongoing," Twiineamazima said.

He added that police are also investigating allegations from members of the community linking one of the suspects to previous cattle theft incidents.

"We have received information from members of the public alleging that one of the suspects has previously been involved in cattle theft. These claims are being verified as part of the ongoing investigations, and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings," he said.

Police said the suspects will be produced before court once investigations are completed.

Twiineamazima thanked residents for their cooperation with security agencies and urged the public to remain vigilant and continue reporting suspicious activities.

"We appreciate the community for providing timely information that contributed to this successful recovery. We urge the public to remain vigilant and continue sharing information with the nearest police station to help combat livestock theft and other crimes," he said.
