Uganda: Greater Mubende Plu Youth Mobilise Against Corruption

17 August 2026

PLU youth leaders in Greater Mubende have pledged to use their grassroots structures to promote accountability, monitor public resources and mobilise communities against corruption.

The youth affiliated with the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) made the commitment during the election of the organisation's Greater Mubende regional leadership at Kakungube Village in Nalutuntu Sub-county, Kassanda District.

The newly elected leaders, drawn from Mityana, Kassanda, Mubende, Kiboga and Kyankwanzi districts, said they would use their community structures to identify corruption concerns and encourage residents to demand accountability in public service.

Isaac Kitanda, the PLU spokesperson for Greater Mubende, said the new leadership would focus on mobilising young people to participate in the fight against corruption at the village level.

"Our focus is to take the fight against corruption to the grassroots. We shall work through our local leadership structures to ensure that communities understand their role in demanding accountability," Kitanda said.

He said the youth would also encourage residents to participate in government programmes and monitor the use of public resources.

During the gathering, the youth commended PLU leaders Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba and Minister for Local Government Balamu Baruhagale for what they described as efforts to address corruption in the country.

Kassanda District Chairperson Drek Ssemuyaba Ssembuusi urged residents to support efforts aimed at promoting discipline and accountability in the district.

Ssemuyaba also called on residents to observe the directive issued by Minister Balamu concerning the operation of bars, while emphasising responsible leadership and community participation.

He appealed to parents to support their children in acquiring education and skills that can help them benefit from employment and other opportunities available in the district.

Kassanda South Member of Parliament Abdul Bisaso encouraged residents, particularly young people, to actively participate in PLU activities and programmes.

He urged the youth to take advantage of opportunities that can contribute to the development of their communities.

The Greater Mubende PLU youth leaders said their anti-corruption campaign would extend beyond political gatherings to communities, where they plan to work with local leaders and residents to promote accountability.

They pledged to mobilise more young people across Mityana, Kassanda, Mubende, Kiboga and Kyankwanzi to participate in community development initiatives and efforts to combat corruption.

The election of the regional leadership provides a structure through which PLU youth can coordinate their activities and expand their presence at the grassroots level.
