17 August 2026

Preparations for Amaato ga Kabaka, the Buganda Royal Regatta, have entered the final stage, with Kingdom leaders and event officials conducting meetings and patrols ahead of the event scheduled for August 22, 2026.

Buganda Kingdom leaders, including the head of the Kabaka's Protection Unit and protocol officials, joined members of the Buganda Royal Regatta team for preparations aimed at ensuring the event runs smoothly.

Organisers said security arrangements have been put in place, with entry points expected to be clearly organised to manage the anticipated crowds.

They have also promised affordable meals and adequate refreshments for people attending the event.

Other preparations include securing boda boda transport services and mobile phones to be used during the treasure hunt, one of the activities planned for the occasion.

The preparations have heightened expectations that the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, could attend the event, although his participation has not been officially confirmed.

Buganda Kingdom leaders at different levels have been asked to mobilise people to attend the event at Bunjako on August 22.

The Amaato ga Kabaka regatta is part of Buganda's cultural activities and is expected to bring together Kingdom officials, subjects and other guests for the celebration.

Organisers have urged the public to turn up for the event in large numbers.
