Mozambique: Generational Challenge Demands Measures Toward Economic Independence

Maputo — The Mozambican President Daniel Chapo, as leader of the ruling Frelimo party, believes that the country's generational challenge demands a paradigm shift toward the achievement of economic independence.

According to Chapo, who was speaking on Friday at the opening of the XI National Conference of Frelimo Cadres, economic independence demands the country's participation in the global economy from a position of sovereignty, "transforming natural resources, such as gold, coal, gas, rubies, and graphite into national wealth that generates jobs and prosperity for Mozambican families."

"If the first fifty years were marked by the achievement and consolidation of political independence, the next fifty years must be geared toward achieving economic independence", he said, explaining that the meeting is aimed at defining the strategic pillars for the future of the country and the party.

Chapo also said that economic independence also comes from foreign investment or international cooperation. "We need concrete actions, through industrialization, domestic resource processing or modernization of agriculture", the President said.

He added that the party's mission must continue dedicated "to the people, transforming hope into a prosperous future for all Mozambicans."
