Malawi: Ansah's Wilderness Moment - Faith, Defiance and the Reading Between the Lines

The leader of the Zambezi Evangelical Chiole Synod has urged Malawi's Vice President, Jane Ansah, to stay devoted to God -- as she appeared to hint at being sidelined by government.

Rev. Mwai Kamuyambeni made the appeal at a women's conference organised by the synod at Manjawira Secondary School in Ntcheu, urging Ansah to keep fearing and serving God.

Church leaders showered the Vice President with gifts -- a goat and a Bible -- before a group of pastors gathered to pray over her.

The gathering, which kicked off on Friday, runs under the theme "You Don't Die in the Wilderness."

Ansah drops hints over sidelining

Taking to the podium, Ansah leaned into the conference theme, appearing to make veiled references to being pushed to the margins by the government.

She used her address to urge women to know their worth and steer clear of alcohol, warning that drink "defeats their judgement."

The Vice President -- who also serves as a Bishop -- told the crowd that when troubles strike, the answer lies in Scripture, not venting on social media or leaning on friends.

She closed her address with a rallying call for unwavering prayer and faith in God.
