Uganda: Immigration Officers Urged to Uphold Professionalism As They Receive New Ranks

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Internal Affairs has urged immigration officers to embrace professionalism, humility, respect and teamwork as they take on new responsibilities following their promotion.

The message was delivered on his behalf by Chief Government Chemist Kepher Kateu Kuchana, who represented him as chief guest at a pipping ceremony held at the Ministry of Internal Affairs headquarters in Kampala.

The ceremony was held to decorate newly promoted officers in the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control.

In his message, the Permanent Secretary congratulated the officers, saying their promotion was a call to greater responsibility, integrity and service to the country.

"Promotion is not just a new badge, it is a call to higher ethical standards and accountability. I have witnessed your professionalism firsthand and I am confident that you will carry your new ranks with honor," Kuchana said while reading the message.

He urged the officers to approach their new leadership responsibilities with humility, respect and teamwork, noting that protecting national security requires cooperation across the Ministry's directorates.

"Let integrity be your compass. No single directorate can secure this country alone. Remember that our ultimate client is the ordinary Ugandan citizen," he said.

Speaking on behalf of the promoted officers, newly promoted Assistant Commissioner of Immigration Jabel Male pledged that the officers would justify the confidence placed in them through professionalism, integrity, discipline and commitment to public service.

"Promotion is not merely a reward, it is a call to higher performance, accountability and leadership. We therefore pledge to uphold the laws, regulations, policies and values governing the Public Service, and to discharge our duties with diligence and impartiality," Male said.

The ceremony was attended by senior Ministry officials, including the Director of Citizenship and Immigration Control and Commissioners of Immigration, alongside family members and other invited guests.
