Buganda Kingdom has received more than Shs42 million in Luwalo contributions from subjects in Busiro, Bulemeezi and Britain to support the Kingdom's development programmes.
The contributions were handed over to the Buganda Kingdom at Bulange, Mengo, by the Speaker of the Buganda Lukiiko, Patrick Luwagga Mugumbule.
Speaking on behalf of the Katikkiro, Mugumbule commended the Kabaka's subjects living outside Buganda for continuing to serve as ambassadors of the Kingdom through their work, conduct and preservation of Buganda's culture.
He emphasised the importance of teaching children the Luganda language and preserving cultural identity, particularly among subjects living abroad.

"Teaching their children the Luganda language and preserving our culture is very important because when a nation begins to lose its identity, we have people who can represent and preserve that identity even in foreign countries," Mugumbule said.
Mugumbule said Luwalo is rooted in Buganda's culture and traditions and called on all Baganda, regardless of where they live, to participate by contributing towards development initiatives undertaken by the Kingdom.
The Minister for Local Government, Joseph Kawuki, thanked the Kabaka's subjects for supporting Kingdom programmes aimed at restoring Buganda to its rightful position.
Kawuki encouraged the contributors to return to their respective communities and share what they had learned about the Kingdom's programmes.
The guest of honour, Dr Grace Steven Sseruyange, the First Deputy of Ssebwana, also urged the Kabaka's subjects to educate others about the programmes being implemented by the Kingdom so that more people can benefit from them.
Meanwhile, Muky. Janet Nabatta Mukiibi, the Second Deputy Representative of the Kabaka in the United Kingdom and Ireland, covering South and West England, said the county had recently reorganised itself and strengthened cooperation among its members to support initiatives that benefit them while living abroad.
She said the group had also mobilised 200 young technology professionals to guide and support them as they navigate careers and opportunities while living outside Uganda.
The contributions came from several sub-counties and associations.

In Busiro, Ssaabaddu Katabi, Mutuba V Nakiwogo and Mutuba IV Entebbe-Lunnyo contributed Shs21 million.
Mutuba V Wabusaana in Bulemeezi contributed Shs3.9 million, while the Britain group contributed Shs17,227,075.
The contributions total Shs42,127,075, reaffirming the commitment of Buganda's subjects at home and abroad to supporting the Kingdom's development programmes.
