Kenya: Uchumi Supermarket to Hold Creditors' Meeting As Insolvency Process Continues

Nairobi — Uchumi Supermarket PLC is set to hold a creditors' and members' meeting later this month as part of ongoing insolvency proceedings before the High Court of Kenya.

In a notice, Owen Koimburi, the appointed Insolvency Practitioner overseeing the process, said the meeting will be held virtually on Monday, September 21, 2026, at 10 am.

Interested parties have been encouraged to register in advance using the link provided in the official notice.

"NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN pursuant to section 628 of the Insolvency Act No.18 of 2015, Rule 134 and the Third Schedule of the Insolvency Regulations, 2016 that Uchumi Supermarkets PLC will hold a creditors' and members' meeting virtually on Monday, 21st September 2026 at 10:00 am," the notice read.

The agenda will include opening remarks by the chairman, a presentation by the CEO covering operational, legal and financial matters, and a report from the Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) Monitor.

The meeting will also include an open forum where members will have an opportunity to share their views on the CVA's achievements to date.

The agenda further provides for consideration of written notices received by the Monitor's office up to 48 hours before the meeting.

The meeting forms part of Insolvency Petition No. IP 25 of 2018, which remains before the High Court of Kenya's Commercial and Admiralty Division.

Uchumi, once one of the country's largest supermarket chains, has been under insolvency-related restructuring since 2019 as it seeks to resolve outstanding obligations to creditors.
