Cuima — The municipality of Cuima, in Huambo Province, recorded a harvest of 52,492.20 tonnes of various agricultural products during the 2025/2026 season, the local director of Agriculture, Farming and Fisheries, Evalina Dovala reported on Thursday (10).
Speaking to ANGOP, she stated that, compared to the previous harvest, there was an increase in production of 1,029 tons, involving 1,108 farming families.
Evalina Dovala said the harvest included 27,277.80 tonnes of various vegetables, 23,867.90 tonnes of sweet potatoes, 962.40 tonnes of maize, as well as 384.10 tonnes of beans, crops that form the backbone of local cultivation.
The official noted that production took place on an area of 13,629 hectares allocated to peasant families, who received technical assistance, such as supply of improved maize, bean, and vegetable seeds, as well as agricultural inputs distributed by the Cuima municipal administration as part of efforts to combat poverty which served to boost agricultural productivity levels.

Evalina Dovala considered the outcome of the current agricultural season positive, taking into account the increased interest among families in farming activities and crop diversification, despite the constraints many farmers are facing.
The government official took the opportunity to mention certain difficulties regarding access to means of production such as seeds, fertilizers, and financing, as well as distribution, due to the poor condition of access roads.
She announced that, for the 2026-2027 agricultural season, the municipality of Cuima foresees a total production of 53,282 tonnes of various agricultural products.
However, under the Mechanization and Soil Amendment Program recently launched by the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture, Farming and Fisheries in Huambo, 300 hectares have been selected for the cultivation of maize, beans, and soybeans, as well as for Arabica coffee seed multiplication.
The official informed that the strategy is part of the Cuima AGROVIDA project, which aims to mobilize and support 500 farming operations which comprises farmers, cattle breeders, fishers, aquaculture producers, processors, and traders with a special focus on women and youth.
She added that the program's primary focus is the gradual transition from subsistence farming to activities with a stronger commercial orientation and higher profitability, with a view toward social and economic development.
