The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has launched a signature-collection campaign in the Busoga sub-region as part of a nationwide mobilisation drive seeking more than 20 million signatures in support of its chairman, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, ahead of the 2031 presidential election.
The campaign was launched in Jinja City and attracted PLU leaders, politicians, Members of Parliament, local government leaders and supporters from across Busoga, who pledged to mobilise support for Muhoozi ahead of the 2031 general elections.
PLU says it is targeting more than one million signatures from Busoga alone as it seeks to demonstrate grassroots support for Muhoozi's anticipated presidential bid.
Speaking at the launch, Daudi Kabanda, the Head of the Office of the PLU Chairman, urged people in Busoga to rally behind Muhoozi, whom he described as a leader capable of connecting the aspirations of Ugandans to what he called a better future.

Kabanda said the nationwide campaign is intended to demonstrate the level of support for Muhoozi and mobilise Ugandans ahead of the 2031 elections.
"We are targeting more than 20 million signatures from across the country. Busoga has a critical role to play in this mobilisation, and we are calling upon the people of the region to come together and support General Muhoozi Kainerugaba," Kabanda said.
He added that the campaign would be taken to communities at the grassroots to give supporters an opportunity to append their signatures.
The PLU Director of Mobilisation, Michael Mawanda, said the launch marked a shift from discussions to practical mobilisation, urging supporters to intensify their efforts ahead of the elections.
"We have been talking, but it is now time for action. We must move from words to mobilisation and ensure that our message reaches every part of the country," Mawanda said.
PLU leaders in Busoga said the campaign would rely heavily on grassroots mobilisation, with coordinators expected to reach villages across the sub-region.
The PLU Busoga Coordinator, Samuel Nabeta, said the region had set an ambitious target of collecting more than one million signatures.
"Our target in Busoga alone is one million signatures. I am ready to take these books to all the villages because we want every community to participate in this campaign. If we can mobilise more than 270 signatures from every village, we can achieve our target," Nabeta said.

Some political leaders in the region have also openly endorsed Muhoozi's 2031 presidential ambitions.
Jinja District Woman Member of Parliament Peace Tibyaze said she had endorsed Muhoozi in what she described as an effort to ensure continuity in leadership.
"I have endorsed General Muhoozi Kainerugaba because I believe in continuity. We must support leadership that can carry forward the gains we have made while addressing the challenges that remain," Tibyaze said.
The leaders described PLU as a political vehicle through which they intend to consolidate support for Muhoozi ahead of the 2031 elections, while calling for increased grassroots mobilisation.
The launch brought together several dignitaries, including Members of Parliament led by the Vice Chairperson of the Busoga Parliamentary Group, Martin Muzaale; former ministers Daudi Migereko and Isaac Musumba; Jinja Resident City Commissioner Salim Kumakech; security officials led by Busoga Regional Police Commander Charles Nsaba; and UPDF officers led by the Jinja Cantonment Political Commissar, Major Mucunguzi.
The campaign is expected to continue across the Busoga sub-region, with PLU coordinators targeting villages and communities as they pursue the one-million-signature target for the region and contribute to the group's wider national mobilisation campaign.
