Kenya: No, Kenya's Forest Service Did Not Advertise 171 Permanent and Pensionable Vacancies

No, Kenya's forest service did not advertise 171 permanent and pensionable vacancies

IN SHORT: A Facebook advert claims the Kenya Forest Service advertised 171 permanent and pensionable vacancies across 21 job categories. But KFS says the advert is fake and most likely originated from an internal promotion notice for existing staff. It has not advertised vacancies to the public.

A job advert posted on Facebook claims the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has announced 171 permanent and pensionable vacancies across 21 job categories.

The positions are said to be in forestry, security, finance, human resources, ICT, administration, surveying and corporate communication, among other areas.

KFS is a government agency responsible for managing and conserving Kenya's forests and promoting sustainable forest development.

The advert has also been posted here and here.

But is it legitimate? We checked.

Fake job ad

We searched the KFS careers portal but found no notice advertising the 171 vacancies.

KFS has also dismissed the job advert as fake. In a public notice, the service said the information was inaccurate and misleading and speculated that it might have originated from an internal advert about existing staff promotions.

The service urged the public to disregard the job advert circulating on social media.

It added that when positions become available, it will advertise them in national media and on its official website.
