Police in Kigezi have raised alarm over the rising number of road crashes in the region, revealing that 10 people have died and several others sustained serious injuries in 26 crashes registered in the last two months.
Speaking to Nile Post, Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson Nelson Tumushime said the crashes, 10 fatal, 12 serious, and six minor, occurred mainly along the Kanungu-Rukungiri-Ntungamo and Kabale-Kisoro-Mbarara roads.
"As police, we are concerned about the increasing fatalities, and we have intensified operations targeting reckless motorists," Tumushime said.
Tumushime cited a recent crash in Rukungiri District involving an Isuzu truck carrying pilgrims, which failed to negotiate a corner and collided with a boda boda rider, killing four people on the spot and injuring more than 30 others.
