Uganda: Weighbridge Operations Begin On Kampala-Entebbe Expressway

6 October 2026

Weighbridge operations have officially commenced on the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway, with all vehicles weighing 3.5 tonnes and above required to undergo mandatory weighing in accordance with the law.

The exercise began on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, following a directive from the Ministry of Works and Transport under Minister Fred Byamukama.

The measure is intended to strengthen vehicle load control, protect the expressway and other road infrastructure from damage caused by overloaded vehicles and improve road safety.

"All vehicles weighing 3.5 tonnes and above are required to undergo weighing in accordance with the law," the Ministry said.

Authorities warned that vehicles found to be overloaded will face applicable charges and other enforcement measures.

The enforcement comes as the government intensifies efforts to ensure motorists and transport operators comply with prescribed vehicle load limits and reduce damage to Uganda's road infrastructure.

The Ministry said the weighbridge operations are aimed at strengthening compliance with load limits while protecting roads and enhancing safety for road users.
