Sources indicate that a team from the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) is conducting investigations in Kisoro District. The officers are reportedly operating in the area as authorities await the arrival of the Minister of Local Government, Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi.

Speaking to Nile Post by telephone, Kisoro District Police Commander (DPC) Cosmas Edatu confirmed the arrests, saying the two officials were apprehended on Tuesday evening.

"It's true we have arrested two Kisoro District local government officials on charges of corruption," Edatu said.

The arrests come amid ongoing government efforts to strengthen accountability, combat corruption and improve service delivery in local governments.

Meanwhile, Minister Barugahara has announced revised dates for inspection visits and public rallies in Kisoro, Rubanda, Kanungu and Rukungiri districts as part of a programme aimed at strengthening accountability and addressing challenges affecting service delivery.

In a statement published on his official X account on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, Barugahara said the schedule for the inspection visits and public rallies had been revised, with new dates set for the four districts in the Kigezi sub-region.

The planned visits are intended to provide an opportunity to assess service delivery and address challenges affecting local government operations.

Further details regarding the specific allegations against the two officials and the progress of the investigations had not been provided at the time of publication.

The officials remain suspects, and the allegations against them have not been proven in court.
