Tanzania's Ferry Death Toll Reaches 128

One hundred and twenty-eight people died when an overcrowded ferry travelling from Zanzibar to Pemba sank. The island’s government has promised to improve sea transport and purchase a new passenger and cargo ship.

Spice Islander, the boat which capsized while heading for Pemba Island. It was reportedly overcrowded and there were not enough life jackets for all the passengers.

Survivors of the ferry disaster are being treated at Mnazi Mmoja Hospital in Zanzibar.
