South Africa: Collapsed Silo Leads to Power Cuts

The collapse of a coal silo at Majbuba power station has constrained the country's electrical grid, forcing Eskom to institute load shedding to avoid potential blackouts.

One of the coal silos at the Majuba Power Station in Mpumalanga, which has collapsed. Eskom had originally said a silo was "cracked" before this image emerged on social media. The collapse led to a series of planned blackouts which the electricity provider refers to as load shedding.
