South African Play Sums Up SS Mendi Tragedy

Almost 100 years later, the sinking of SS Mendi and the last moments of the brave crew on board has been brought to life in a play.

Steamship SS Mendi, which sank on 21 February 1917 with the loss of 30 British crew and 616 South Africans, mostly of the South African Native Labour Corps (SANLC)
