South African Banks to Drive Smart ID Roll-Out

Nedbank and Standard Bank have kick-started the project by allowing their employees to apply for smart ID cards before memebers of the public can do so.

The new identity card is aimed at combatting identity theft, and fraudulent activities related to drivers licences, social grants, financial institutions, as well as insurance.
