South African Minister Exposes Massive Suspicious Payments

South Africa's Finance Minister, Pravin Gordhan, has published a list of transactions totalling seven billion rand - almost half a billion dollars - made by friends of President Jacob Zuma which the country's financial authorities deem suspicious. Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa has backed Gordhan in the intense battle over corruption which is being waged between different factions of the ruling African National Congress. Opposition parties are calling for the transactions to be investigated and for charges to be laid against Zuma's friends, while the party's youth wing leader has called for military veterans to take up arms in defence of Zuma.
