Wayde van Niekerk won the South African Sport Star of the Year and Sportsman of the Year award. The sprinter hit the headlines at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games when he won gold in the 400m, setting a new world record with a time of 43.03.

Caster Semenya won the SportsWoman of the Year Award, after winning 800m gold at the Rio Games.
