Empowerment of African Youth & Women Will Transform Agriculture

One of the presentations at the just concluded 2016 African Economic Conference held in Abuja, Nigeria, was on Accelerating Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment in Africa. According to UNDP, gender inequality costs Sub-Saharan Africa about US $95 billion a year and hampers the continent's efforts for inclusive human development and economic growth. Also presented were the ENABLE (Empowering Novel Agri-Business-Led Employment) Youth, an AfDB-IITA programe working to help launch 300,000 agribusinesses and create 8 million jobs in some 30 African countries over the next five years. The agro-allied industrialization of the African continent cannot materialize without the involvement of women and youths. Women and young entrepreneurs were the focus at different sessions during the 2016 African Economic Conference held in Abuja, Nigeria.
