Financial Bill Faces Impasse in South African Parliament

The presidents of the Progressive Professional Forum and the Black Business Council, Mzwanele Manyi and Danisa Baloyi, have argued that the Financial Intelligence Centre Amendment bill would give authority to banks to do as they please. Legal opinions by the National Treasury, the Banking Association of South Africa and the Speaker of the National Assembly, however, all concurred that the bill, in its current form, met constitutional requirements.
