South Africa's Ratings Downgrade to Have Far-Reaching Impact

Standard and Poors has downgraded South Africa's economic status to "junk" - for the first time in 17 years - following the firing of Pravin Gordhan, the former finance minister, and his deputy Mcebisi Jonas, after months of speculation.
