South African Presidential Hopeful Explains Stance on Khwezi
Zweli Mkhize, the African National Congress's treasurer-general, has spoken about what action he took on learning that President Jacob Zuma allegedly raped Fezeka Kuzwayo, dubbed Khwezi. Kuzwayo was an HIV-positive woman with whom Zuma admitted to having had unprotected sex, and whose behaviour unleashed a public outcry when he claimed he took a shower afterwards. The president's office said that there was "nothing new to add" to comments made by Mkhize, that Zuma had described his relationship with Khwezi as having a degree of intimacy built over some time. Zuma was found not guilty in the Johannesburg High Court in 2006. Kuzwayo died in 2016.
