South African Boxing Legend Willie Toweel Dies

Willie Toweel was born on April 6,1934. After winning a bronze medal in the Flyweight division at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki Finland, he turned professional in 1953 and fought in the Batamweight, Featherweight, Lightweight, Middleweight and Welterweight divisions. He  retired at the age of 26 and became a trainer to South African champion boxers, the late Charlie Weir, Brian Mitchell and Thulani 'Sugar Boy' Malinga. Toweel died on December 25, 2017 at the age of 83.
