Artist Gets Court Order Against Singer Steve Hofmeyr

South African activist Johan Pienaar has been granted a court order preventing controversial Afrikaans singer, Steve Hofmeyr, from intimidating him and disturbing his art installation which features the old South African flag. Hofmeyr, who sees himself as the "voice" of the white Afrikaner people in South Africa, has his name featured in the middle of the flag. The artist has been inviting people at the exhibition to walk over the piece as a symbol of rejection.

JohanPienaar tweeted - Personally I find the flag and those names abhorrent. But it is a contextualization and an invitation to a conversation which strangely we are having in 2018. I understand the offense that can be caused by this. Though in my experience today black people were not offended.

Johan Pienaar laid down a contextualized version of the Old South African flag for public participation in Stellenbosch.

Steve Hofmeyr tweeted: I'm in Stellenbosch. Looking for sidewalk art. Want to beat it/damage it/break it.
