Govt Collects Three Years' Worth of Tanzanite Royalties
Tanzania Minister for Minerals Angellah Kairuki has told parliament that it has collected over U.S.$269,000 in royalties from tanzanite artisanal miners in three months, from January to March 2018 which is more than what it collected in the last three years.

TanzaniteOne Mining, the country's largest miner of the rare gemstone, has bowed to government pressure to address serious flaws unearthed by a parliamentary team. These include theft, embezzlement, corruption and lack of accountability which led to the country losing million of dollars in undeclared or undervalued exports. The statement comes shortly after an agreement reached between the government and Barrick Gold, the majority shareholder of Acacia Mining, on 50/50 profit sharing.
