Mali Must do More to Ensure Peace - German Minister

Five years after French soldiers drove Islamist extremists out from the north and peacekeepers moved in, the country is still considered to be the most dangerous UN mission in the world. German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen has called for greater commitment from the Malian government to ensure peace.

The mission in Mali has been a dangerous one for peacekeepers. Weeks ahead of the elections, two soldiers from Chad were killed during a suicide attack in Tessalit. Peacekeepers from Benin carry the coffins of their colleagues during a ceremony held for the two, and for a Nigerien peacekeeper who died of illness.
