The selection of little known Martin Fayulu as the the opposition's single candidate sparked outrage from the grassroots, forcing the more popular Felix Tshisekedi to pull out of the alliance within a few hours. While this will satisfy their constituents, it also plays into the hands of the ruling party, who will find it far easier to defeat a divided opposition.
