Gupta-Linked Money to Land South Africa's Mkhwebane in Hot Water?

Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has slammed a report by the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project which claims that she received a U.S.$5000 payment from an account associated with the controversial Gupta family. Mkhwebane, who called the allegations malicious and defamatory, said: "there is no indication that the source of the funds was from the Gupta network." This marks the latest setback for Mkhwebane who already faces a protracted legal battle with Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan.
