Public Protector, South Africans Wait to See Her Fate

Public Protector Busisiwe Mkwebane has been at the centre of a political minefield with among others, her investigation of Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan, where he is accused of setting up a Rogue Unit while commissioner at the South African Revenue Services, her investigation into procedures followed in new SARS Commissioner Edward Kieswetter's appointment, and her investigation of President Cyril Ramaphosa, accusing him of lying to the National Assembly about not knowing of a R500,000 donation his election campaign received from Bosasa, a company that reportedly received government tenders illegally. Now a debate is raging on her competence to hold office.
