Nigeria Close to Being Declared Polio-Free

The World Health Organization has certified that there has been no evidence of wild polio in Nigeria. It's been three years since any cases of polio have been detected since August 21, 2016.

In August 2016, 4 new cases of polio-virus type 1 (WPV1) were reported in Borno State, the first WPV1 strain detected in Nigeria since 2014.
