Time Running Out for Ghana's Illegal Gold Miners

Small-scale mining in Ghana employs more than one million people directly and support the livelihoods of about 4.5 million. Although permits are required, it is estimated that about 70% of small-scale gold miners are unregistered and operate illegally and now the government wants to clamp down on them, writes James Boafo for The Conversation.
