Nairobi Governor Sonko Described as "Fugitive" By State

Prosecutors handling Mike Sonko's case have specifically cited a case in which the governor escaped from Shimo La Tewa Maximum prison in Mombasa more than a decade ago, portraying him as dangerous. Sonko has pleaded not guilty in all counts related to money laundering, receiving bribes and conflict of interest in a U.S.$3,5 million scandal.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is led into the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission offices in Nairobi on December 6, 2019.
