More Effort Needed in Fighting Pneumonia to Avert Child Deaths
UNICEF has said that boosting efforts to fight pneumonia could avert nearly 9 million child deaths from this and other illnesses in Africa. This comes as nine leading health and children's agencies host the world's first global conference on childhood pneumonia in Barcelona. According to a modelling by Johns Hopkins University, over the next decade, deaths are likely to be highest in Nigeria (1.4 million), DR Congo (350,000) and Ethiopia (280,000).
