COVID-19 WhatsApp Helpline Helps Millions Monitor Pandemic
Millions of people around the world have utilised a WhatsApp helpline originally launched by the South African Department of Health. COVID-19 Connect was designed to deliver accurate, up-to-date information to citizens during the pandemic. The technology, which leverages artifical intelligence, has seen additional support from the World Health Organisation and allows users to access realtime information about COVID-19 including symptoms, where to get tested and debunking fake news about the virus.
As of July 14, the confirmed cases of COVID-19 from 55 African countries have reached 611,115. Reported deaths in Africa have reached 13,463 and recoveries 302,923.
