Malawi Court to Hear Mutharika's Appeal Against Election Re-Run

Malawi's Supreme Court is to begin hearing an appeal by President Peter Mutharika against the re-run of an election that handed him a second term in office. The Constitutional Court in February annulled the results of the May 2019 poll for "grave" and "widespread" irregularities, including the use of correction fluid on tally sheets. Meanwhile, the Malawi Electoral Commission fears that the COVID-19 pandemic could threaten the crucial July 2, 2020 polls.
