Police Officers on Trial for Murder of Mozambique Poll Observer

Six members of Mozambique's elite police unit have gone on trial for the murder of Anastacio Matavel, a prominent election observer who was shot dead at the wheel of his car in Xai-Xai shortly before the nationwide October 2019 elections. Half a dozen elite police officers have testified in court, four of whom have confessed to taking part in a plot to murder Matavel.
