Twists, Turns in Fraud Case Against Zimbabwe's Chivayo

Controversial businessman and socialite Wicknell Chivayo has found himself in trouble after the Supreme Court reversed his acquittal by the High Court for allegedly defrauding the government of U.S.5.6 million. Chivayo won a tender for the construction of the U.S.$200 million Gwanda Solar Power Project in 2015 but is yet to show any meaningful progress, despite receiving a U.S.$5 million advance from the government in irregular circumstances. Now Energy and Power Development Minister Fortune Chasi is reported to have ordered the country's power utility to withdraw criminal charges leveled against Chivayo.
