All In a Day's Work as Nigeria President Hires, Fires, Suspends

President Muhammadu Buhari has been cracking the whip these past few weeks, beginning with his own ruling party, the All Progressives Congress which saw leadership squabbles almost tear the party apart at the seams. Another task was his appointment of 12 non-career ambassadors, the firing of the managing director/chief executive Adedayo Somefun of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, with 3 directors. It has since emerged that among other things, board members unduly awarded themselves bonuses. Buhari also appointed Nnaemeka Ewelukwa as managing director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc, NBET. He has sworn in members of the Federal Character Commission, the Federal Civil Service Commission and the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission. Without a moment to catch his breath, he then warned ministries, departments and agencies to disregard any request from government officials seeking jobs or other favours for pals.
