Getting to the Root Cause of Lack of Development in Niger Delta

Nigeria's House of Representatives is investigating the Niger Delta Development Commission which was established in 2000, to develop the oil-rich Niger Delta Region. Numerous cases of corruption, mismanagement and the misuse of funds have been revealed. President Muhammadu Buhari has said he wants to "get to the root of the problem undermining the development"  of the Niger Delta region. The president instituted the audit after billions of dollars were reportedly sunk into the region with no visible development. The Niger Delta is the oil-rich region, where ironically, people live in poverty, with little economic activity.
