France, U.S. May Intervene As Mozambique Insurgency Intensifies

The insurgency in northern Mozambique's Cabo Delgado is reportedly becoming increasingly well-coordinated and militant, escalating to levels never predicted by President Filipe Nyusi's government. The resulting response by the army has been insufficient so far. Now both the United States and France are trying to become involved in patrolling the coast of Cabo Delgado.


Thousands of people have fled the violence in Cabo Delgado, often ending up in refugee camps like this one in Metuge.
