Illegal Evictions Rise Despite South Africa Govt Promising Help

Evictions among farmworkers and people with informal homes continue despite Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation Minister Lindiwe Sisulu and Cape Town Mayor Dan Plato committing to helping those affected. Evictions are illegal, even with a court order, during Level 3 of the Covid-19 lockdown, unless a court specifically orders otherwise. Evictions without a court order are always prohibited and illegal in South Africa.

Sphiwe Mdluli has been on the waiting list for a home of her own from the government since 2004.
