Tanzania Issues New Regulations, Further Limiting Press Freedom

Under new regulations announced by the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority, which came into force on August 10, local media must now seek government permission to broadcast foreign content - and they will bear the responsibility for any perceived "offence" contained in that content. This follows earlier regulations which banned organising or participating in any online demonstrations, restricting citizens from sharing information about the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
