DR Congo Establishes Initiative to Support Young Women

Adolescence is a crucial period. For many girls in the country, it is riddled with challenges that can derail their future: child marriage, unwanted pregnancy, sexual exploitation and sexual abuse, potentially leading to abuse of drugs and alcohol, and sexually transmitted infections including HIV. Many drop out of school as a result. The Kitumaini Initiative established by  the government with support from UNFPA and UNESCO is aimed at empowering these young women.
