Cameroon Suspends Ebo Forest Logging

Greenpeace Africa called the intention to open logging in Ebo forest "a massacre", saying the forest is essential for more than 40 local Banen communities. It said that opening the forest for logging during the Covid-19 pandemic may ruin its unique biodiversity and exacerbate the climate crisis. The organisation added that protecting natural wildlife habitats may also be the world's best chance at preventing future pandemics such as COVID-19. The government has since announced its plan to suspend the logging.
