What Timetable for Return to Civilian Rule in Mali?

In a meeting with members of the miltiary council, representatives of the protest coalition that campaigned against former Mali president Ibrahim Boubacar Keita reportedly proposed a 18-24 month transition to civilian rule. In an ECOWAS virtual summit on Friday, leaders of west African countries demanded a transition lasting no more than 12 months. And France, which has some 5,000 troops stationed in Mali, called on Mali's military junta to 'quickly" organise a handover to civilian rule.

ECOWAS Heads of State and Governments in a virtual meeting called for a 12-month transition process to civilian rule in Mali.
