Kenya Targets Governors as Corruption Probe Intensifies

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission is reportedly investigating at least eight more governors on charges of abuse of office and corruption as the renewed war on graft continues to gather momentum. Among the top officials is Migori County Governor Okoth Obado who is facing allegations of embezling about U.S.$674,000 of public funds and an impending motion to impeach him. Documents from the National Council of Law Reporting archives show that 10 out of the 47 serving governors, or a fifth, are facing a criminal case or had been prosecuted in the past. The charges against the governors range from kidnapping, destruction of property, assault, corruption to murder.
