South African Human Rights Champion George Bizos Laid to Rest

Renowned South African human rights lawyer and activist, Advocate George Bizos, has been laid to rest in Johannesburg. Bizos, 92, passed away on 9 September 2020. Delivering the eulogy, President Cyril Ramaphosa described Bizos as a man led by his moral convictions. At the time of his death, the Daily Maverick reported that Bizos helped draft South Africa's 1994 Constitution, and was a lifelong friend of Nelson Mandela. Bizos was part of the Rivonia trial team, defending Mandela, Govan Mbeki and Walter Sisulu.
